Feburary 9th – 12th a trip to Pokhara

A big highlight has been our recent trip to Pokhara. To visit the lakeside town has been a dream of us for many years, but since we didn’t have the financial recourses it seemed out of reach. Now the generous support of the Trade and Export Promotion Center Nepal made this dream come true.

So on a very rainy Saturday morning 31 of us boarded a bus to Pokhara. After 10 hours on the road we were tired when we finally got there, but also happy and excited. During the next two days we not only visited many of the major tourist sights but also another organization that provides skill training and work for economically disadvantaged women of rural Nepal. “Women skills development Organization” has been founded in 1975 and now provides work for about 600 women. To be able to meet the founder and some of the staff and to see the beautiful work they are doing was very inspiring. They make beautiful hand-woven products and offered to train two off our women to learn this craft, which would be a great opportunity for us.

Eventually on day four we had to return back to Kathmandu. Luckily the trip back didn’t take as long as going there and we all returned safely.
